Episode 1: A Stranger In Familiar!

Today on Melemele, there has been a strange and rash sequence of events!

Officer Jenny has been busy, as a series of thefts has been noted across the city. The wealthy industrialist Viren has been targeted several times with valuables relating to the Pokemon Groudon.

As researchers are coming into the town today to help work on the Ultra Hole situation, on invite of the Aether Foundation, it seems that someone might have slipped through into the town. A certain woman in green might have been spotted in several of Viren's locations before a theft has been seen.

Some people might be starting to get uneasy about the influx of people. Perhaps it's time to investigate some of these rumors that a thief might have made their way onto the island...

Officer Jenny Threads

Officer Jenny can be found at various scenes of the crime, checking the area with her Gumshoos partner.

Other than that, she's at home.

Spider-man and that Spinarak that's been following him around since his arrival are both at the scene of the crime late at night. This dude-uh-what was his name? Viren? Something like that. Anyway, he seems to be the thief's favorite target so he's staking out the place from a nearby tree.

"Okay, Shelob. Keep your eyes open for anything out of the ordinary." He tells the pokemon. "Alright Karen, activate reconnaissance mode." He says quietly. "Dronie, I need you to watch the other side of the house."

The little spider-drone flies off to do as it's been told.

"Man, why couldn't the thief have sent like a calling card or something? It's so inconsiderate to just drop in unexpectedly like that."

"Spinarak!" Shelob states. Peter's not sure if she's agreeing or not.

On the other side of the clearing, Jenny is doing her own stakeout of the likely target. There's a chance that Viren's latest collectible, the Eye of Groudon, was going to be targeted by the thief.

Checking her binoculars, she noticed the small, almost indistinct blob that was Spider-man and frowned. "Gumshoos, you see that?" She said, passing it over to Gumshoos.

"Gum," replied her partner.

Getting out of her stakeout area, she moved quietly over to Spider-man's area and called out in a hushed tone, "Hold it. You're that new hero in town I've heard about, aren't you?"

"See anything yet?" Spider-Man is asking his new partner which replies with a noise suggesting she doesn't. "Well, it's still pretty early and who needs sleep any-oh my god!" He jumps a little and has to quickly focus his attention on sticking to the branch he's perched on. He's just upside down now. Cool.

"Uh.. yeah, Hi! I'm-I'm Spider-Man. Nice to officially meet you." He offers a small wave. Why didn't his senses go off? They're just all over the place right now and he really needs the Spideysense-not Peter Tingle (thanks Aunt May.)-to come back.

"Spina." The Spinarak says in concern, now also hanging upside down-though that was a choice.

"Well, it's nice to meet you Spider-man," replied Jenny, crouching down next to his tree and beckoning him to slide into the bushes. "I take it you've heard the news that a new thief has been making the rounds in Melemele. Gumshoos and I have been working overtime with the rest of the force. We've narrowed it down to a few spots where she could strike."

Jenny pulled out a picture and handed it to Spider-man, of a woman in a green dress. "See her? No name, no identification. She just shows up whenever there's a theft the day before. We noticed a pattern."

"Yup, sure have. That's why I'm here-staking the place out. Haven't noticed anything yet, so far." He admits before letting himself drop back to the ground, flipping around so he lands in a slight crouch. He slides over to the bushes as gestured but Shelob is choosing to stay in the tree.

He takes the picture handed to him and looks at it carefully. She doesn't look familiar-but maybe. "Since there's no identification I'm guessing no one's managed to talk to her, huh?" He's been about as Spider-Man a few times and met a few people so there's something he can at least give it a shot? He hold a hand up to where his ears are beneath the mask.

"Hey Karen, can you run a facial recognition on this picture? Just compare it to all the people we've seen since we got here."

"None so far," replied Jenny.

Given a moment, Karen could look into the facial recognition. Local hits wouldn't give anything but at the moment, a flag would trigger on the International Police Records, as a known felon alias would flag in Peter's notes as Karen would report a known burglar named Brodie used the unnamed woman as his alias as one of his many faces.

It would also Flag Looker, and alert him that one of his prime targets is in Alola. However Peter is not under suspicion for hacking and is free as a bird.

Yeah, that's exactly what Peter thought. He waits for Karen to check local faces and frowns beneath his mask. He didn't really expect that to work but he had hoped it might give them something.

"Searching other databases..." Karen informs him as she continues the search.

"So the best we can hope for is to catch 'em in the act?" He asks, not super keen on sitting in the same place for possibly hours.

"Peter, I have matched the picture as being an alias to known criminal known as Brodie. Would you like me to pull up more information?" Oh, apparently it did do something.

"Uh... yeah, sure Karen, lets do that." He's not gonna get in trouble for this, is he? He's a good guy-he'll only use the information for good.

It's a good thing she's home, because Yuume has been a bit busy. Technically this is supposed to be her vacation of sorts. She's...going to register for some university classes, but regardless. She's been busy!

And so, teal-knit-poncho and all, Yuume knocks on the door.

Jenny was getting ready for her shift when she hears the door. Opening it, she tilts her head. "Alola! Yuume right? What brings you to the house today?"

"Ah- Alola! That is correct...actually, Officer, I was hoping to speak to you about the recent troubles over the island... ...I understand it's far from my job to get involved, but I couldn't help but observe things at the locations I was present at, and thought it best to let you know on the chance it could help."

She lifts her gloved hand, gesturing with it. "I actually took some photos and recordings with this, so..."

It's a nifty thing!

"Well I suppose we could use the help," replied Jenny. "Come on inside. Did you want anything? Juice? Tea? I'm usually a coffee girl but I'm running late."

[shadowslipping]

"Ahh, coffee would be wonderful, but if you're running late I shouldn't take up too much of your time," she insists, coming in all the same. As she moves, she turns on her glove- a small hologram display of screens appears, and she begins moving her hand just slightly to pull up the images and files she needs.

"You have noticed from your own evidence perhaps, that there seems to be a woman in green at each of the scenes..? I...noticed something odd about the pokemon with them. One moment..."

Aha. Vid file- a tiny scene in holographic 'colour', in the palm of her hand. She's yet to press play of course.

Jenny peered at the Pokemon. The woman in green had a Smeargle in that first picture, and a Magmar in the next. While the woman wore sunglasses, the Pokemon seemed to be... Jenny inhaled at the sight. "Beady eyes, of course. Ditto. The common theme is a Ditto."

She smiled and got up to go to the coffee maker. "You've earned that coffee."

[shadowslipping]

"Ah- so this was useful then..~" she cheers, clearly relieved. "I hadn't been sure, but it seemed odd..."

Wait, wait- "Oh!! O-Officer, didn't you just say you were late..!?

[hearts_beat]

Ellen feels just a bit uneasy. There's a thief wandering around and here she is trying to play detective. This doesn't feel right at all, especially with so many people here.

So many have already explored elsewhere... so, where should she start first?

"Ha... detective work is not my thing?" She uttered.

"GHASTLY!" her ghost Pokemon uttered, laughing as it floated around her.

"Leave me alone!"

At the moment, Jenny is following up the case when she notices Ellen with the Ghastly. While she seems to be nervous about her Pokemon, a fear of ghost perhaps? She goes over. "Having trouble focusing?" she asked curiously.

[hearts_beat]

"Ah, just a little, yeah..." Ellen admitted. "I want to help out just a bit, but not sure where. It... doesn't help that my partner is a little... attached to me."

"Pokemon do that a lot," replied Jenny, chuckling. "They find someone who are the best suited towards them, and become the best suitable partner for them."

"Are you investigating the situation at hand?" asked Jenny curiously.

At home

Peter's still adjusting to his new life. He's spent a good amount of time at the library researching various things and of course, he's spent some time out as Spider-Man. Every evening he patrols for a few hours and then comes back to home away from home.

He gets home a little later than normal tonight and opts to sneak in through his window and change quickly to his pajamas-a simple pair of plaid pants and this shirt. Once it looks like he's been home for a few hours at least, he moves out to the kitchen and gets himself some cereal, settling down on the chair.

"Spinrak!" His new little partner says suddenly, deciding to break the silence and causing Peter to jolt.

"Don't do that!" He says, hand over his heart.

Re: At home

"Do what exactly?" asked Jenny, flicking on the light as she walked into the house. She carried a box of takeout. "I'm surprised you're still jumpy even after settling in Peter."

She dropped her keys into the ash tray which was purposed for nothing but keys, and then kicked off her shoes before placing the food on the table in the nearby room. Gumshoos toddled in after her, waddling over and sitting on the couch opposite Peter. "Did you have a good day today?"

"Uh." Peter responds as he gets himself to calm down. "Shelob snuck up on me." He explains before finally taking a bite of cereal. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact he'd only just gotten home and snuck in through his window.

"Spina." The Spinarak nodded, looking pleased and expectant.

"Yeah, yeah. Okay." Peter plucks a piece of dry sugary cereal out his bowl and holds it out to Shelob who takes it gratefully. Is he supposed to be feeding her cereal?


"Yeah, spent most of it at the library though. How was your day?" He asks, genuinely interested.

Cereal was okay for her. This wasn't like a place where you had to just feed them a strict diet of things.

"Tiresome," replied Jenny, hanging up her hat. "There's a thief that's been striking all over the city lately. We've made some progress in trying to find them but so far, we've only got a few leads. There's been a few stakeouts but nothing's come up so far."

"Oh, I'm sorry." He takes a bite from his cereal. He'll have to keep an eye out for anything suspicious while he's on patrol. He hasn't really noticed anything recently but he's mostly focused his patrolling in the center of town.

"So, where all has this guy attacked?" He asks, before adding as an after thought- "You know, so I can uh... avoid danger or whatever."

Jenny chuckled. "Feeling like a inquisitive one tonight, Peter? Well okay. He's attacked the museum, the two research labs, and three Viren funded buildings. All of which have Viren major collections recently brought there."

She tapped the table. "There's a lot of things being taken, mostly old writings and such."
