Episode 1: A Stranger In Familiar!

Today on Melemele, there has been a strange and rash sequence of events!

Officer Jenny has been busy, as a series of thefts has been noted across the city. The wealthy industrialist Viren has been targeted several times with valuables relating to the Pokemon Groudon.

As researchers are coming into the town today to help work on the Ultra Hole situation, on invite of the Aether Foundation, it seems that someone might have slipped through into the town. A certain woman in green might have been spotted in several of Viren's locations before a theft has been seen.

Some people might be starting to get uneasy about the influx of people. Perhaps it's time to investigate some of these rumors that a thief might have made their way onto the island...

"Well, it's nice to meet you Spider-man," replied Jenny, crouching down next to his tree and beckoning him to slide into the bushes. "I take it you've heard the news that a new thief has been making the rounds in Melemele. Gumshoos and I have been working overtime with the rest of the force. We've narrowed it down to a few spots where she could strike."

Jenny pulled out a picture and handed it to Spider-man, of a woman in a green dress. "See her? No name, no identification. She just shows up whenever there's a theft the day before. We noticed a pattern."

"Yup, sure have. That's why I'm here-staking the place out. Haven't noticed anything yet, so far." He admits before letting himself drop back to the ground, flipping around so he lands in a slight crouch. He slides over to the bushes as gestured but Shelob is choosing to stay in the tree.

He takes the picture handed to him and looks at it carefully. She doesn't look familiar-but maybe. "Since there's no identification I'm guessing no one's managed to talk to her, huh?" He's been about as Spider-Man a few times and met a few people so there's something he can at least give it a shot? He hold a hand up to where his ears are beneath the mask.

"Hey Karen, can you run a facial recognition on this picture? Just compare it to all the people we've seen since we got here."

"None so far," replied Jenny.

Given a moment, Karen could look into the facial recognition. Local hits wouldn't give anything but at the moment, a flag would trigger on the International Police Records, as a known felon alias would flag in Peter's notes as Karen would report a known burglar named Brodie used the unnamed woman as his alias as one of his many faces.

It would also Flag Looker, and alert him that one of his prime targets is in Alola. However Peter is not under suspicion for hacking and is free as a bird.

Yeah, that's exactly what Peter thought. He waits for Karen to check local faces and frowns beneath his mask. He didn't really expect that to work but he had hoped it might give them something.

"Searching other databases..." Karen informs him as she continues the search.

"So the best we can hope for is to catch 'em in the act?" He asks, not super keen on sitting in the same place for possibly hours.

"Peter, I have matched the picture as being an alias to known criminal known as Brodie. Would you like me to pull up more information?" Oh, apparently it did do something.

"Uh... yeah, sure Karen, lets do that." He's not gonna get in trouble for this, is he? He's a good guy-he'll only use the information for good.

"That's what a stakeout is for," replied Jenny with a little mirth behind her tone. "You haven't done many stakeouts before in your time as a crime fighter? More of a punch them up, web them up sort of person, Spider-man?"

"Gum," replied Gumshoos, handing Jenny some coffee as she sipped at it.

"Part of police work is knowing when you have to wait for the criminals to strike after all."

"Uh.. no, not really." He admits, thinking about how the last stakeouts he did ended. "I mean, I try not to like.. punch anyone 'cause I don't want to hurt anybody-but yeah. When I'm out patrolling I just kinda web people up and let the police handle it after."

But he'd actually managed to track Toomes down so he must have done at least some decent detective work. And where was Karen with that information? Was so little known about that guy? Karen will come through, she always does.

"So like, what kinda security does this guy have? Alarms, security cameras? Anything that this guy might accidentally trip?"

"Viren has state of the art security. Alarms, laser security, keypads. I'm surprised if they actually get through it..." Said Jenny.

Gumshoos nods, and then stiffens for a moment. "Gum!" He barked in alarm seconds before a Skarmory swoops out of the darkness, claws aimed at Spider-man's head. "Get down!" She exclaimed, hitting the dirt as a Fury Attack was aimed right for the group.

"Gumshoos, Protect!" Exclaimed Jenny, as the Skarmory swooped around for round two, aimed for the Spinerak.

Well, if Karen's right about who this thief is then it kinda fits the MO. "So then they probably have like tools or something to get passed-Shit!" Peter lets out as he's suddenly dive-bombed. He rolls out of the way and hops up on his feet, ready for a fight.

But then the thing is after Shelob. Why? "Shelob! look out!" He cries before firing a web at the Pokemon and pulling her close. "Hey buddy, maybe pick on someone your own size?" He calls up to the skarmory.

"Type battling!" Exclaimed Jenny as the webs gummed up the Skarmory's wings as it skidded off Gumshoos' Protect. "Sometimes, it just sort of happens!"

The Skarmory skidded along the ground, dragging its wings to clear its wingtips of webbing as it tried to use Slash to free itself but failed. Instead, it reared back its wings and fired a Air Slash at the group.

"Dodge!" Exclaimed Jenny, as she and her partner hit the ground rolling. "Sandstorm!"

"Gumshoos!" Exclaimed Gumshoos, blowing up a arc of sand around the opponent, blotting out the area with a whirlwind of sand as the four of them disappeared into the choking sand.

Battling? He's been reading about it off and one since he got here-specifically reading about Spinarak. He knows this! Before he can fully call anything out though, there's suddenly sand and Peter is so glad he doesn't have asthma anymore as he goes to cover his face. Well, at least he's wearing a mask.

"Hey Shelob, how about uh-String Shot?" He cries out to her.

"Spina!" The Spinrak says in agreement before shooting her own webs at the the skarmory.

Blinded by the Sandstorm and webbed up, the Skarmory is unable to do anything but struggle inside it's cocoon. And as the sand died down, there was nothing but a shaking bubble and then, silence.

For a moment, it seemed like the battle was over.

But suddenly, the cocoon cracked open and there was a large hole in the middle of the ground, as the Skarmory had used Dig to escape into the ground, leaving nothing but a endless trail.

"Ah! After it Gumshoos!" Exclaimed Jenny as Gumshoos dove into the ground. Turning towards Spider-man, she dusted herself off. "Looks like we've got someone who tried to head us off the trail. I'm radioing this in."

"Yeah, I'll.. see if I can chase after it." He decides, looking at the hole. Can he send Shelob after it? He doesn't want her to get hurt but she's proven to be quite a force to be reckoned with. He shoots a little tracker onto his partner who doesn't seem to mind at all.

"Alright, Shelob. After it!" He says.

"Spinarak, rak rak!" She responds before hopping into the hole.

"Okay Karen, lets follow. Anything happening anywhere else? This might have just been a distraction."

"Seems like there's a Goldbat that's attacking my men," replied Jenny, listening to the radio chatter on her shoulder mounted radio. "But I'm thinking there's something else in play. Gumshoos, did you find anything?"

"Shoos," replied the muffled reply as he stuck his head out from the hole.

"Seems like it can track it. "So, Spider-man, up for a little trip? Do you have a lead on it?"

Karen would find a trace leading to the Warehouses, where Viren had most of his collection.

Peter wants to go help the police and if they were just normal citizens he wouldn't have thought twice about going to stop the attack but the police can handle themselves, he's sure.

"Yeah. I have a tracer on Shelob and she's in pursuit."

"Peter, It seems that Shelob is headed to the west side of the city. According to the maps, there appears to be a warehouse. This is most likely the Skarmory is headed."

"Karen says they seem to be headed for a warehouse on the west side?"

"Then that's where we're going to head out to."

Going over to a Motorcycle that was parked on the side of the road, she and Gumshoos got in. "I take it you have your own way across town?" she asked. "If not, get on. Navigating these streets can get a little difficult on foot."

"No thanks, got this." He tells her before firing his webs off into the distance and...

nothing.

That's what he gets for trying to show off. He fires another web that connects to tree and he jumps up, swinging away and in the direction of that warehouse-or at least in the direction the tracer is showing Shelob to be in.

"Alright Karen, tell me everything you've found on this Brodie guy and get me to that warehouse as fast as you can."

"Plotting fastest route now... You will need to take a left in approximately thirty feet."

"Tough guy," replied Jenny as she chuckled, Gumshoos rolling his eyes as the pair headed out after them after radioing in the chase.

Soon, they pulled up to the warehouse. "Backup in 5 minutes Jenny," replied Dispatch.

"Skarmory's already inside," replied Jenny. "Spider-man's here already. I'm going in with him."

"Watch yourself," replied Dispatch. "Enroute in 4 1/2."

Inside, was a group of broken crates, most of them destroyed upon entry as Skarmory had entered the building from below. From there, the Pokemon lurked in the shadows, the shine of metal from the moonlight spilling in from the rafters could be seen.

Peter drops down into the warehouse, landing in a slight crouch as he looks around. Something's not right. His Spideysense is starting to prickle at the back his neck before getting louder and suddenly it's screaming at him about some form of danger.

"Oh god." Peter lets out as he glances around quickly. "Hey uh... Karen? What's in here that might be setting off-"

"The Skarmory appears to have increased in size by roughly 10 times."

"Oh great!" Peter says sarcastically, firing his webs quickly to get moving again.
