Birthdays!

Birthdays in Alola were always a big deal, and today was no exception. With news down the grapevine that Rena was having a birthday, Mallow had decided that she needed a party. And word of mouth spread, and the students organized a party to which she was sent a surprise invite to her restaurant. Everyone was invited, and the restaurant was rented out for this party that day.

Rena was beaming as she was walking to the restaurant, excited that Mallow would invite her out, and even though she was nervous, she was also hopeful that everything would go all right. She hadn’t noticed that she was always being followed by Shay’s Swablu however, especially on the days leading up to this day.

Once there, she was greeted by the students who popped poppers and food was brought out. Come and celebrate with some food and happy cheers!

This little bluebird would probably blend in with the rest of the present partygoers' Pokemon if not for the gift-wrapped package tied onto their back. But it must be incredibly light because the Swablu seems entirely unbothered by the weight as they take a moment to munch at one of the abundant Pokefood bowls.

Some extra help with the delivery or information on where the rest of the presents are to put their cargo wouldn't go unappreciated.

Tsareena was directing the Pokemon around when she noticed Swablu there. Waving the birb over, she guided her over to the table. "Tsar?" she asked curiously.

The bird hops over and immediately chirps with both a greeting and of course an explanation-

{I'm here to deliver a present! From the birthday girl's brother...!}

(Oh! All right, here, let's give that oh then!) Exclaimed Tsareena as she gestured over towards Rena who was sitting at the table.

(Go on!)

Rena looked over at Swablu and asked, "Is this for me?"

With that amount of encouragement behind them, the bird nods- leaning up to show where the gently (yet also securely) tied knot is, since Rena has to untie the gift from off their back first.

And when she opens it now (or later), inside the box is a neatly folded scarf with a plain yet familiar brilliant red hue. Alongside that is a birthday card that reads of sending well wishes Rena's way and signed with... a heavily stylized and mirrored 'RR' in red pen?

The items spark a memory in Rena, and her smile softens as she says, "Swablu, hold on a moment."

Taking a piece of paper, she sketches out a letter and hands it to the bird. It simply writes, "Thank you for the birthday gift. I hope we can see it again, under the brilliant tower once more."

After Rena is done, the Swablu takes the letter carefully in their beak and bobs forward in with what might actually be their best approximation of either a bow or head nod. And off the little bird goes, out the door.

...

.... Shay is out and about far somewhere else until the bird finally appears, which he notices and puts an arm out for them to perch on. "Oh, you have something for me, Ruri?" he inquires while taking the note and ignoring as 'Ruri' uses the opportunity to hop off his arm just so she can perch on his head instead.

And after reading it, Shay outwardly lets out a brief sigh that at least turns into a small smile.
