Season 2, Episode 4.3: Dawn of the Third Day

With the wind and rain howling, and the Blackwatch enemies thinning and the dawn rapidly approaching, it seemed like everything was finally getting to the point that the tired defenders were starting to go their way.

As dawn rapidly broke over the horizon, the thudding of a large machine could be heard coming up the road, as a massive Rhyperior was driven up the walk. “Ahahahahaha!” Laughed the portly duck riding on its shoulder. “Ye all gonna be flattened now! This is the Rhyperior Superior! It’s the latest in Poketech Autonomous Armor, and it’s gonna give you all a beatin! And then we’ll take what we wha-whoa whoa!”

With a slip off his feet, Glomgold fell off the Rhyperior Superior’s wet exterior and onto the ground with a loud splorch. Spitting out mud, he exclaimed, “That’s coming out of your paycheck!”

The Rhyperior Superior crashed through the school gate and took up position across from the tired battlers. It flexed in challenge.

With little stamina, it seemed like the defending team was on the back foot.

But then, as the rain stopped and the sun broke out, a rainbow glowed in the dawn’s light as a songbird’s cry could be heard. The warm glow of healing rejuvenating energy could be felt across the fallers and defending trainers as a cry went up. “Ho-Oh!”

Yes, the mythical bird had indeed come out of hiding, and was flying across the land, towards Aether Foundation where the storm was still lingering.

“After that bird!” Exclaimed Glomgold, taking chase as a small contingent of soldiers still standing took off towards the Aether Foundation.

Chase Team this is your time. Chase after Glomgold, prevent him from taking Ho-Oh for his own! THREAD IS BELOW!

Glomgold is chasing after Ho-Oh! Stop him!

"Uwaah! That's...!"

Sena with three of his own Pokemon behind him looks up in awe as the golden phoenix-like bird flies towards them. His surprise is changed to horror at seeing Blackwatch operatives pursuing it, though, and since he's already at the Aether Foundation, there's not much that he can do other than pelt them with long distance attacks.

Thankfully, those are Portus's specialty!

"Portus, Hail Devil Pass! Monta, Vee, back him up!"

Monta and Vee let out fire and electricity respectively, and Portus catches them with psychic power. He then conjures some Shadow Balls to mingle with them, before launching them at the Blackwatch Operatives with incredible force.

Yuume has her own idea of a plan.

"Everyone, return for just one moment," she warns, cloaking herself in shadowy armor. Striking the ground with her glove she draws out what power she can from her shadow, before sinking deep....deep...and ever deeper inside.

And then, like a catapult, launches outward. "NOW-! EVERYONE!"

It's a whirlwind of rushes- and as if one among the number were connecting their minds and hearts at that moment, each of them move to do something to help the distraction.

"INDEEDEE~!" "TEA~!" Helping hands and strength saps are in play, the pokemon launching forward to provide their support in opposing ways. "DIIINO!" A third move is added however, as a wave of sparkling mist follows behind them- the Misty Terrain.

Which means-

"NOW! WHILE NO ONE ELSE ARE AHEAD BUT THEM!" It's a directional move- for the most part. But while others have failed, Yuume planned to cover for her 'aoe' weaknesses. Shadows spread out to shield those behind from a Dazzling Gleam thrown by Alcremie. Disarming Voice meanwhile, needs no such protection- in such a room as this, it goes forward and outward, but only forward. There's nothing around to echo the sound to the back.

Ho-Oh.

Wes didn’t remember many things from his time before Cipher. His memories were stripped, just so he couldn’t revolt or feel anything positive before his life changing journey. But there was a memory that took root in his mind- one with Cipher members rooted in. Wes remembered How-Oh coming to their aid. Preventing the escape of...

Someone.

Wes was glad that he came to the Aether Foundation because he can see the bright and familiar colours of the legendary. However, he can hardly focus on good memories. Black watch is approaching and he needs to get back in on the action.

Wes has no flying Pokémon and one of his two partners could only do close range... which meant he had to chase after the flying bird.

Wes hopped on his bike and his friends got into the passenger car. The hover bike roars to life and Wes rides out after the Blackwatch members...

He will use a sludge bomb when he gets close enough,

"GET BACK HERE, GLOMGOLD!"

She doesn't mind the magnificent bird in the sky, she's more worried about the loud mouthed duck chasing after it! Having tossed out Turbo, one of the two Galarian Farfetch'd, out, she pointed out at the duck.

"Alright, Turbo, let 'em have it! ROCK SMASH!"

"FEEEEEEEETCH'D!" the Pokemon cried out, bringing its large leek down on a Blackwatch soldier.

With Toxel holding his head and Budew in his arms, Dio is bringing the Baby Brigade as fast as his legs can carry him. It's no secret to him that his Pokémon aren't the strongest, but worrying about what one lacks doesn't help anyone, so he's tried his best to focus on their respective strengths. In this case, he's recognised that both of his Pokémon are particularly good at slowing folks down.

So that's precisely what they plan to do. He holds his Budew out with his arms. His hands are starting to feel numb from her Poison Point, but it's fine. It's fiiiiine

"Avant, stop that overgrown featherbag in his tracks! Use Stun Spore!"

With a rallying cry joined by Bloodshy atop Dio's head, Avant shudders and spits a glob of paralysing powder from her bulb toward Glomgold.

Secrecy was out the window a long time ago as Shay stays atop his solid vision mount, going with the waterfowl of his team since they're the one with strong long-range attacks, the teen also points toward the soldiers assisting Glomgold since there must be plenty of them with armor weak to-

"Ice Beam...!"

And upon that command, Scuttle lets loose with it.

"WOAH! Watch it, ye crazy old loon!" Glomgold shouted, barely dodging the Rock Smash, only for him to get caught up in Stun Spore. "What in the--?! I'm... gaaaah! Can't... move... too fast!"

The soldiers wouldn't fall so easily to the plethora of attacks. A handful would, but the rest would be resilient and fight back.

"Y'idiots! Someone grab me and keep runnin'!" Glomgold said, one of the Blackwatch soldiers grabbing the duck like a football and running like he was going for a field goal.

"Keep it up, you guys! Wear 'em down!"

As his three Pokemon continue with their attacks, Nin, Yan and Shell gradually come back to his side. They'd been battling various mooks and their Pokemon on the island, but the bright lights of Ho-Oh had revitalized them and gotten their attention.

"Shell, do an In Motion until I give you the signal...Nin, Yan! Intercept 'em!"

Shell immediately sinks into the ground using Phantom Force, while the Ninjask and Yanmega split into several Double Team copies. They then streak off across the water, occasionally diveboming the Blackwatch operatives or sweep past their legs, trying to trip them up into colliding with other attacks.

"We need to get Glomgold from the others," Yuume announces, pausing only a hair of a moment before making her move. "Right- Dee, Tea," she begins, the two combining their efforts again; a helping hand from one, and from the other...

The polteageist vanishes, darting as close to the front of one as possible- "Astonish!" ...ing. Wow!

The other three though. "Let's move!" Pulling her Audino and Alcremie down, the Hattrem teleports fine enough on her own power. Once again it's a catapult of shadow- and as Yuume launches forward, she flips with impressive skill to throw the pair down. "BRUTAL SWING! SECRET POWER! DRAINING KISS!" she orders, all three charging in with their strikes. As for herself-

She draws her blade, moving to intercept and herd for the others to get to the duck.

Six soldiers. Six targets. And Wes doesn’t want to get in the way so he avoids the goons that are being assaulted. Wes revs his bike up even faster and surges after Glomgold. His snag machine arm is strong enough he can clothesline anyone who comes near him while he drives with his normal arm. He comes over to the current guard with Glomgold and rams them with the side car where both his Pokémon are.

“Spark and Sludge bomb.”

The two Pokémon cheer and send the lightning and poison over to the poor guy.

Hmm, it seems that only deterring their target isn't as helpful as Dio had hoped. "Avant, keep it up! Hit as many of those goons as you can!"

More bursts of debilitating powder are shot from the Budew's bulb in an attempt to slow some of the soldiers in the back; there's not enough mass to launch it further up front, not to mention how many allies are up there too.

Meanwhile, Bloodshy begins to spit Acid globs haphazardly, hoping to give some of the special attackers in the group a bit of an edge in the fight.

"Oh, come on! It can't be that hard!" Della shouted again. "Again, Turbo, Rock Smash!"

"FAR!" the duck screeched, bringing down his leek again.

This time, the heroes attacks don't do too well as only one soldier falls to the attacks. The soldiers get a bit more fierce, dragon-fueled attacks being launched from their guns mimicing Dragon Rage as they try to hold off the chasers.

"The bird's flying lower!" Glomgold shouted. "Lift me higher!" As the soldier did so, Glomgold tried to raise his arms... and the Stun Spore tripped him again. "AAAAGH! So CLOSE!"

Shay whistles for his bird to bank itself back to his side and then he pulls out another card from his extra deck- once that those familiar with his Raidraptors haven't seen before, but maybe just because it was never in the cards in any of his duels thus far.

"I think it's time I stopped playing Pokemon trainer and pull out something else from my real arsenal...! Ready for launch! Raidraptor - Arsenal Falcon!"

And it's not as big a metal bird as perhaps Final Fortress, but it's an impressive thing soaring above everyone's heads nonetheless. If his Cramorant's eyes could bug out any wider than they are, they would be.

"Artillery Assault!" Shay commands (sort of) from his hologram, which fires a whole bunch of Lanius monsters, including the little cannonball-shaped Singing Lanius at the villainous pack.

"Bullet! Now!"

Alice can move pretty fast when she wants to, but it's hard to sustain her top speed for long. Between that and healing her team from the fight, it took her a while to catch up, but she comes in shields blazing, ordering her newly-evolved Metang to establish Light Screens for the other Fallers.

"TCH-!" Annoying! For now Yuume stays out of the shadows, moving to clash her blade against the goons as able. But her aim doesn't seem to be actual damage...no...

If anything it feels more like...

A distraction.

With one swing, her Polteageist is abruptly launched forward, trying their hand at sapping the strength of the others again. But while she does that, her other pokemon seem to be busy.

Indeedee clutches Audino's hands, giving them a smooch as the rabbit-like thing nods. Alcremie dances around Hattrem, gently coating the other in glitter.

And just when Yuume seems to falter...

She smirks.

"Now."

Audino moves first- her attack more focused unfortunately, and likely having less effect over all as a result. A boosted secret power is nothing to sneeze at, though.

Of course, compared to what comes next...

Decorate boosted Hattrem's special attack by a good amount- which means that Hattrem's next attack...

"HHHAAAAAAAATTIIIIIII!!"

Well. The Disarming voice will probably hit hard.

Wes meanwhile will grit his teeth. He has to get up there and stop the minions from passing Glomgold. Maybe he should get to Ho-Oh first? Whatever he needed, he needed to get higher. The man sees the light screens from Alice and he gets an idea. Immediately, he slams the accelerator and surges towards it.

“Koffing! Give us a boost!”

Koffing gives a cry of approval and turns around. Instantly, the Pokémon released a sludge bomb and jerked the vehicle up. The hover bike recognised the surface and began surging up, as if this was a ramp.

The man hissed as they rode up. But the bike held firm. The man instantly launched himself off and hovered above.

“Morpeko! Spark! Koffing! Sludge Bomb again!” Wes yells from the sky. The Pokémon release their attacks, probably to not much success. However, Koffing shudders.

And glows.

“Koffing?” Wes asks.

“Weezing!” The Galarian Weezing cries out, energised by Ho-Oh. To the dragon military men, the Pokémon shoots Strange Stream, the pink fairy attack merging with Yuume’s Pokémon as he fillies overhead.

With every second that ticks by, Dio and his Pokémon fall further and further behind. There's only so much a twelve-year-old can do when trying to match others riding their Pokémon or something even faster, especially while dodging powerful blasts. It's getting harder to hit things from here. Their usefulness is running dry.

Avant, frankly, is having none of that.

The Budew wriggles in Dio's arms and beeps to get his attention. She needs a better vantage point than this. Attempting to comply, he holds her higher, but still she kicks her little feet and beeps some more. An adventurous glint reflects in her eyes.

Dio nods in understanding and tosses Avant as high as he can. Her bud opens once again and, having gotten some nice practice in by now, starts firing off shots to pick off the soldiers left unscathed by the attacks of the others with her Stun Spore. She falls back into Dio's arms, and the two repeat the process over and over again.

Meanwhile, Bloodshy is thinking. His one debilitating attack - Nuzzle - only works up-close, which very obviously isn't an option right now. Nothing else is really doing much, but he still wants to help somehow. He looks around the area, trying to find something, anything he can use!

Ho-oh continues to soar overhead. That's it. Bloodshy grips Dio's hair and...

"BEEEHHHHHH--!"

...he gives the loudest Tearful Look he can, just like dear Lala told him he used to when he was in for a thrashing. If he can garner any sympathy from that big bird in the sky, instil any sense of urgency to escape from or otherwise deal with that stupid duck up front, he'll have played his part.

One by one, the soldiers start to fall in their assault, leaving only the one carrying Glomgold. That one is expertly dodging their attacks before throwing Glomgold upward, the Duck barely grabbing Ho-Oh’s leg.

However, the bird was warned by Bloodshy. It knew of Glomgold’s ploy.

But, it also knew that it couldn’t handle things here. As the last soldier fled, Ho-Oh started to head for what appeared to be an Ultra Hole.

“Oh, no you don’t!” Della shouted. Turbo jumped in surprise as Della ran onward. “I know, I know, we try to hit Glomgold now, we’ll hurt the big bird! That’s why I’m still chasing him. If he’s heading through that hole, I’m gonna make sure he leaves the other way without it!”

She turned back to the others. “You guys can follow me or stay back! Either way, nothing stops Della Duck!”

And Della charges onwards towards the hole.

"Shoot..! We need to get him before he reaches the ultra hole!" she roars, darting forward in the shadows. "We can't all go in without the right equipment..!"

Ahh, but she has some of that right? She has...

Yuume shakes herself, launching forward in the shadows after recalling her pokemon again. The focus is not the grunts after all. The focus, her eyes set dead ahead as she bats the balls toward Glomgold like an ace pokebase player is-

Well. The duck after all.

The balls of course scatter; Yuume isn't an ace pokebase player, and that's a little embarassing. But the pokemon themselves have their own strikes to make in the end. Indeedee vaults Audino and Polteageist both, the first of them receiving a solid helping hand; while the former unleashes a shine of brilliant pink in attempt to lash out at the duck, the latter simply attempts to shock the fellow into letting go with an Astonish.

Both may not fare so well...but the other two, ultimately, were launched a little closer to target. Once again, both attempt their more distracting moves, the area of effect far from anyone else for just the moment- with Alcremie's Dazzling Gleam, and Hattrem's Disarming Voice!

But down below-

"Tch...They're flying right for it..." Yuume drops her armor but briefly, fingering a device within hip pouch.

So, being hidden in a school building is great and all except for when that stops working. They were safe for a bit- but as a machine crashes through the gates, and his vision swims (did...he just see one of the kids flying off on a bird? ....Naaaaahh)...well.

Egg tucked in his backpack, his three pokemon amble out only to freeze. That thing.

That thing is huge. But that thing... Katsuya swallows- and after a moment, grins.

Darkly.

"Heh...Y' think y' got a leg t' stand on agains' all 'f us?" he shouts, already knowing just how many others will be joining the battle. "YER ON!"

With a triumphant shout, he sends them forward- all but Amar, the wooloo at least. Instead Amar seems to...Fluff up. Thicken. Disappear into wool...

It's fine, they'll be fine. Cotton Guard is fine.

It's the others who the Rhyperior ought worry about. The ponyta's tail shining brilliantly, Katsuya calls- "IRON TAIL!"- and with a gleeful whinny, she's galloping for the joints of one leg, battering at it. For the skiddo however it's different. "RAKAK! RAZORLEAF!"

And that one's something more. Leaves rustle from the goat's mane, and launch for any nooks and cracks that can be found- Katsuya refuses to go into this laying down.

"Haa... this... this is nuts!" Nozomi said, obviously drained. She should swap out from Cure Dream to her other jobs, but no time. Tepig is ready to act, though.

"Ready, Rin?" she asked. "FLAME CHARGE!"

"TeeeePIG!" the pig squealed, igniting itself in flames and charging at the large Rhyperior.

The Rhyperior Superior's shield broke! It's DEF and SP DEF Sharply Decreased!

DICE COUNT HAS BEEN REMOVED BY 1!

Fallers Can Continue to Act!

Josuke looks up, and up further, and... "Shhhhhh-" he stumbles back a few steps, to try and get a better look at whatever this thing was, but there was one thing that could not be denied... it was menacing, and anything menacing could be considered unsafe right now.

The Furfrou stepped forward, fur fluffing as he challenged the much larger pokemon. He knew his person, the idiot behind him who kept treating him like he would leave any moment, would not just stand back and do nothing, so he was going to act. With a cry he charged in, head first, to headbutt this thing.

Josuke stared in surprise, giving a shout as the canine charged off. "Get him!" He said, already getting ready to fix any injury with Crazy Diamond... if the canine came back.

Robot or not, it still seemed to have Pokemon Weaknesses as her Rotom seemed to have scanned. So, steeling her resolve, Zuzu stood her ground as Primarina took her stance.

"All right Primarina, Aqua Jet, let's go!" She exclaimed, as Primarina cloaked herself in a veil of water and lunged forward in a spinning arc towards the Rhyperior Superior.

"Low Kick!" Followed up Mirio, the Lucario following up as he charged in.

Skidding below the mecha's legs, it delivered a powerful kick to it's knees in order to topple it over. Hopefully it could do some damage to the robot.

"ALRIGH'! Amar! Get up near th' line 'f attack, an' do tha' again!" he orders- pointing to a curiously precise area of the ground as the sheep rolls and gradually grows like a snowball.

"Rakak, Kaseri...R'PEAT!"

Iron tail!

Razor Leaf! They're gonna take this thing out, just watch!

"Let's not give up this quickly!" Dawn said, her Piplup at the ready. "Keep Buzzswole at the ready, Piplup; for now, Bubblebeam!"

With that, the penguin reared back and fired off its signature attack at the machine.

With the attacks hammering into the Rhyperior Superior from all sides, it seemed like the team could win with their type advantage and the seemingly tanky robot being hammered. But then its eyes flashed as it raised its arms.

[Max Quake] It intoned, the ground rumbling as a huge plume of earth shook, and aimed itself for Piplup, Rakak, Kaseri and Lucario.

But it wasn't finished as it launched a Steel Beam at Primarina, followed by a Rock Throw at Furfrou, and a Earthquake at All Remaining Enemies!

"BANG BANG!"

Oh hey, Phym has arrived. And the reason she's shouting is because she's carrying what looks a lot like a cannon. It's about the same size as she is, and she's peppering the mecha with blasts as Autumn uses Life Dew to help out the other defenders.

Amar's placement is perfect. With a shout of 'NOW!' the sheep rolls...and rolls...

And rolls to take the hits aiming for some of her comrades! The thick, thick cotton proves an incredible shield, absorbing as much damage as possible. "R'VERSAL!" is Katsuya's next shout, and the wooloo now rolls forward. And...forward...and...

...

"N...Nyh...d...do y' best?" -thud- "Ehhh..."

Right the others-

The others certainly fumble beneath the blows made from the Rhyperior, but they're not down for the count just yet.

"R-Righ'! Kaseri, speed things up!" he orders, the ponyta rushing about to take advantage of the guard that the wooloo provided. "Rakak! Get more leaves in th' air!"

Leaves, and cotton- the hope is to create a flurry, and Kaseri's tail shines in anticipation as she hastens herself.

"WE GOT TH'S!"

Josuke doesn't look exactly bright as he rushes in closer to the fight itself, reaching out to touch a few of the pokemon fighting. For most there is no sign of what's happened, except for pokemon healing from the damage, looking closer to fully healthy. Those very few, very special people who can see it though, will be able to see his arm looking almost transformed into a pink and blue affair, with what looks like a shoulder guard with spikes on it, shaped like a heart.

Then he's scrambling away, smart enough not to stay in the middle of everything.

"Hey, do it again!" He calls to the Furfrou, who gives a cry of agreement before rushing at the monstrosity, head first once again.

"PIIIIIIIP!" Piplup freaked, getting rattled around as the Max Quake struck, sending him spinning around.

"Piplup, are you alright?!" Dawn asked, worried.

"Piiiiplup!" it said, regaining its footing.

"We need something stronger! Use Ice Beam!" Dawn said, the penguin pulling back and firing a burst of ice energy at the machine.

[While all holed up with others in the school for safety, something odd happened beneath the building. The feeling of emptiness, and while it's moving it's not so faint that it just disappears.

And she doesn't want to lose it.] Zrrt! Reira! Reira, where are you going-!

Mnh! I have to find the empty thing..! [Is all the poor Rotom gets- though fortunately, she'll be contacting Sopholcles, who from there will hopefully be able to get the news to people who can Do Something with it.

Reira for her part...Is on the go. She doesn't exactly run very fast, but after a few moments her corviknight scoops both her and 'Santa' up to make chase.

She's going to get you Empty Thing!]

The empty thing seems to flit from side to side...

seemingly at random.

It travels.

Follow it Reira.

Random never bothers Reira. If anything, Reira herself can seem to move at whims that are unreadable as well. She just points, and her bird follows the pointing, flapping along in silence.

The lack of presence travels.

It goes up, down. Around, inspecting things, looking at different things.

It doesn't seem interested in Pokemon or people.

It keeps traveling.

It feels like they need to go faster. Or at least figure out how to guess where they'll go next. Reira frowns, but urges Kuro more- they need to catch up! They need to! What if something bad happens!

The thing slips from a branch to a TV, and pauses.

It seems to process the information, seemingly absorbing it for a moment, pulsating there for a long moment for Reira to catch up...

Perfect!

With a point, Reira hurriedly lets the bird down into a dive- sharp and swift, before she moves to jump down...!

But Who...or WHAT...

"...Hey..!" she calls, regardless.

It stops

it hovers

gathers

and considers

and questions

Well that's weird. But more importantly- "...You're all empty..."

Reira reaches out, to try and touch the thing. She brings her hand back if it seems to hurt though. Or just seem unwanted, though that's hard to tell thanks to...

The empty. "...How come you're empty..?"

Behind her, the pokemon now landed peer and chitter curiously.

The presence seems to flash. It's empty. But it's a yawning emptiness, and a deep darkness. Like there's something needed there.

Hmmmm.

This is a rather peculiar predicament indeed. Reira crosses her arms, and after a moment tries- "...If you're empty, maybe we can share? Just until whatever you used to have goes there?" They've obviously been on the chase for Something, so.
